In a country blessed with so much talent and versatility, a 23years old Damilola Oluwayemi is redefining the entertainment industry with cool steps and captivating visuals.
What started from dancing in church and school events for fun as a child is gradually becoming a brand and an empire
As the case may be, it is never all smooth and rosy especially when one isn’t given a platform to showcase his/her talents. This was the story of Damilola in Secondary School. But Dami as a natural entertainer was busy singing, drumming, and stomping/stepping his way into the hearts of all those around him. He and his classmates eventually formed a musical dance group infused with stepping, rapping, and a bit of dancing in Secondary School called Notorious which later went on to win back to back talent hunt competitions before he left.
Damilola drew inspiration from watching Michael Jackson and movies such as High School Musical, Step up, and Stomp the yard. In 2013, he decided to focus and be more intentional about his dance when he joined Reflections Dance Ministry at Covenant University. By 2014/2015, Damilola had already made a name for himself as the Daminator. He picked up an interest in cinematography in 2015, he started #DaminatorDanceTutorials in 2018, and by 2019 he was already being cast in Nollywood series, The Crown Academy.
In 2019, Daminator as he is fondly called was nominated in the best performing artists’ category at Covenant University’s ‘The Wings Award’ ceremony. He won the Best Performing Arts Category at the SME100 under 25 award Ceremony. He launched the first edition of his Dance4Charity project using dance as a driving force to reach out to the less privileged. He wrapped up a successful 2019 with a performance at the Greater Lagos Event.
In 2020, Daminator joined the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN) to further his dance education. Thereafter, in June he launched #DamiNation Empire which is an embodiment of everything Daminator is, his team, his supporters, and his works which can be followed through his socials
